NUHHCE Secretary-Treasurer
Kathy Sackman, R.N. and Secretary-Treasurer of NUHHCE, began her nursing career in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after graduating from the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing. She has been an emergency room nurse at Pittsburgh Hospital and worked in the Intensive Care Unit and Critical Care Unit of Kaiser Permanente’s Fontana hospital.
Since 1978, Sackman has been president of the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, representing 16,000 registered nurses and other health care workers all over Southern California. As UNAC/UHCP president, Sackman was one of the union leaders active in passing California’s safe staffing ratio law, and she works daily to negotiate strong contracts with hospitals and health care facilities to ensure nurse-patient ratios that help patients get the best health care possible.
